‘Succession (for the Blackbird)’

Video work ‘Succession (for the Blackbird)’ originally made in August 2012, and re-edited in January 2014, about an event in my backyard in May 2012.

I made the moving image work partly as a way of me dealing with an event that I witnessed – one that I perceived to be a tragedy, a loss and bewilderment.

The soundtrack is made up of both ‘real time’ sound from the camera during the ‘event’, and a section of the collected sound slowed down to 10% of ‘real time’, amplified and looped in order to hear the specific sound of the ants eating the blood.

Sue began collaborating as a teenager in a girl punk band, going on to work in live performance in the UK and internationally, including as a Lecturer at Dartington College of Arts in Devon. Commissions include work for festivals and non arts organisations. Sue also works in community and movement building around climate in her home town of Frome, Somerset, and as project lead for Future Shed Frome. Sue also convenes an experimental online Art Club with artist Joff Winterhart.
